Sheet Music

Welcome. Here is some of my music. It's all under a Creative Commons licence (specifically, Attribution-ShareAlike). I would ask that if you use, alter, or enjoy playing/listening to any of them, that you talk to me about it! That said, please be aware that I'm not a particularly experienced composer and pieces are often not developed to their full potential.

I typeset my music using Lilypond, and where there are recorded versions, I generally use Cubase and VST synths.

From The Womb (2005)

A piece written on a week-long SPNM workshop at The Sage in Gateshead. It takes the form of short(ish) sections representing one person's journey through life. It's not quite completed, nor is it perfect, but any changes I feel would hurt the overall work.

The recording is fo performance of the piece in September 2005. If you wish to use or see parts (or the LilyPond source), then please contact me.

Download: PDF score, Recording (~7MB).

Short piano pieces (2006)

  • Little Toy Lost: A slightly jazzy affair, subject to lengthening and improvement. Download: Score PDF, LilyPond Source. (Also available on the Mutopia Project.
  • Sonatina for one hand: more specifically, for the right hand. Not strictly a sonatina (if there is a strict kind of sonatina?), though it does present and develop some basic material. Download: Score PDF, LilyPond source.
  • Miniature á la the Romantics: work-in-progress. Download.

Thing 1 (2005)

A short piece, written for synthesised organ and celesta, originally written for the short Flash animation for one of my poems. (You can see the animation, if you like, but I think "animation" pushes it a bit.)

It could be played on any selection of instruments, though I would suggest contrasting sounds (e.g. on strings, organ part is bowed, celeste part is plucked, or vice versa). Note that if you actually wanted to play this on a celesta, I don't think you could; you'd have to transpose up a little.

Download: PDF score, a possible realisation (transposed a tone higher; 192kbps MP3), Lilypond source.

Muse sheets

Here is some sheet music for various bits of Muse songs.

Matt on the piano, Montreux 2003

Matt played this between songs at Montreux Jazz festival. It's actually a simplified and slightly expanded on version of the first couple of bars of Rachmaninov's Prelude in G Minor.

Stockholm Syndrome chorus (synth part)

Written out in full, the arpeggios that the synth plays. This was useful for someone at some point, but I'm not sure why or when. :)

Starlight piano riff

Just for people who can't work it out themselves, really.
